IT HAS EVERYTHING TO DO WITH IT BEING THAT YOU STATE THE PROBLEM IS BEING ABLE TO MAKE AN OBSCENE AMOUNT SELLING IT.
THAT IS HOW IT APPLIES.
THE CANDY CANES WERE SELLABLE AND THE PEOPLE WHO HAD A TON OF TRADE IN ITEMS MADE MILLIONS WHILE THE PEOPLE WHO DIDNT HAVE/COULDNT FARM FAST ENOUGH COULDNT GET THAT INSTANT RICH BONUS.
by your logic candy canes should be account based so someone couldnt get rich off of a ton of CC

Too little too late IMO - what do they expect perople to do who've added an SE key to their account already due to the delay? Just p*** away 30 quids worth to get a mini-pet? Because thats what it amounts too, what they should be doing isd also allowing the re-use of the SE keys if a CE key is applied so people can either upgrade a 2nd account, give to a friend or sell on as the SE is no longer needed - although the cynic in me suspects that the reason for the delay in announcing this is so ANET sell more SE accounts without having to provide server space for them as the CE will replace them KERCHING for ANET.

I think the real point here should be that it's called the Collector's Edition, pointing to the idea that 'collectors' might want to get it. Having said that, being a collector myself, people collect things to have them. There are speculators out there, but many of us collect these extra things (physical or in-game) for the sole reason of owning them (and maybe showing them off). Selling these things defeats that purpose. You may, indeed, get people that now decide to go get these things to make millions in-game (if it lasts that long as prices will eventually go down), but to take it back because of that is like punishing the good people because of the possibility of someone doing something bad with it.
The economy is really weird right now anyways with people selling major vigors for 2-5k, so I don't think these mini-pets will change it much.
In reality, there may not be any available for me this Friday. if there aren't then I will be going after the regular edition anyways as opposed to waiting until June. One week wasn't bad, but there's no way I'm waiting two months. Because of Best Buy's first come first served policy my pre-order may not mean anything if I'm not there early enough (or if they don't get any in this area).
Think of it this way: The dragon could net someone one million, one time, possibily. Being in a large alliance can net people millions over and over by selling access to the elite missions and Zodiac items that drop within them. The birthday presents net people a lot of money that knew about the game before the rest of us, while our birthday presents won't net as much. That's just the way life is sometimes. I'm fine with it, most people seem to be fine with it.
The amount of complaining since the annoucnement has ground down to a trickle compared to the amount of people complaining about the delays. They've accomplished their goal of PR recovery and most of us are satisfied with that. I won't be one of the ones to say if you don't like it go elsewhere because I want you to continue to play the game. Having more people in the game makes it a better game for me and I think that once this passes you'll be ok with it (though maybe not love it, but be ok with it). There are lots of people that have fissure armour out there (costing over a million) and believe me, that amount of money in-game doesn't last that long or go that far :-)
For the person wondering why he had to know about my guild's mascot. C'mon, everyone knows about Chuck Norris :-)
The Phoenix flies in-game (well, hovers) and the dragon flew (hovered) like the Saltspray Dragons do in the latter Luxon areas, so this dragon will probably 'hover' just like them.

I'm not saying I don't sympathize with them for having their games delayed, because I do, but that's a bit ridiculous.

Quoted for truth.
Your hardcore fans couldnt wait, now what it'd be a $70 addition to get a dragon pet and the dances for those of us who wanted to play on release?
Bad us
Seems like that's how future items will work too - so a special edition will be released later with items we like. So... rebuy the game for them? Or once again watch on the sideline because we're early adopters/like to play the game instead of wait/watch for all these bonuses?
How about those of us who went out and got the game and linked despite no work/improvements yet to storage, trading/auction functionality, and the game being rather buggy with alliances from the getgo? I agree the CE has been a fiasco, I just think better you resolved them getting into the game early and let them add on stuff later than yet more exclusive items.
Heck I'd buy the glowy hands that'll be supported it seems every chapter if I still could, thats the one that keeps on giving (rather than only 2 characters getting support dancers). But it'll never be an option, so it goes. Here's another one though that just came up even after the grace period, thus I've already linked to the regular edition so there goes that opportunity.
[from what I understand I could put collector on as well but not get the regular # back - I can't justify $120 for Factions, sans 2 slots and no storage lol]
Oh well good for those dealing with the CE but it seems odd my crime is getting into the game as soon as I can, and another interesting opportunity lost.

Just wanted to add this separately -
If ANet kept these as extra 'Collector Keys' (say sans artbook, map, etc) that give the accounts glowy hands, backup dancers, mini-pets, special items etc people would add them at any time based on the bonus.
Not a fan of nickel and dime, but at least those that interest (ie glowing hands seem to have grown to be a part of all chapters, an extra mini-pet is a nice add) maybe $5-10 a pop wouldnt be so bad for a little extra optional fun.
Mini-pets even go beyond this a bit tho which I question - as they are tradeable/sellable this is in effect selling a very expensive directly for cash IMO. If you dont think there will be a *very* lucrative market for those getting one that dont care so much, you're totally kidding yourself.

I see your point, Ckaz, but weren't you telling people whining about the CE delays to just buy the reg edition? (if it wasn't you, I apologize). Oh, wait, that was me!
We all made a choice. Some of us chose to buy the reg edition. Some people held on for the CE. Those people deserve a reward for their patience: not only did they have to wait a week (or maybe longer), but they're spending an extra $20 to do it.
In the end, this mini-dragon probably won't effect the game. Those that really want one, willl buy the CE (even if it means spending $70!).
Those that can live without it (and can't we all live without it?) will continue to play Factions while people waiting for the CE can't.
Do I regret buying Factions early? Yes and no. Yes, I want the dragon, but at the same time, I'm having fun taking my new Necro through Cantha.

It's probably safe to say, that we've all felt punnished in one way or another for doing something we wanted in this game. For example i'm a proud owner of 2 accounts both over a year old. Too bad about 3 months ago I re-rolled my 4 first characters i ever made just to play them from the start again. now, their birthdays are not this month, but in 9 months. Screwed for being a hardcore player. Not only that, but now they finally come out with the ability to buy character slots for our accounts. My second account is now just a slap in the face... I'm just happy to say that I'm glad my patience in waiting for the CE is gonna pay off.

i just have one question....
if, like me and a handfull of Unbeleavably Lucky British people, you got your CE on the friday the went live....
will you still get your pet dragon when its your characters 12 month birthday?
or will you just get a normal pet cutie simply because you added the key the day the game went live?
(i have around a month to go apparently for my pets...but i would like to know if i will be getting a baby dragon or a normal non colectors pet, since i was the only one in my town to pre order the ce, they sent one copy of the ce to my GAME store and I bought it....)

From what I understand, everyone who bought and entered a CE key will get the Kuunavang dragon "toy". This will happen, according to Gaile, in about 10 days.
The Birthday presents are totally independent of this: you'll be getting those as well!

you can probably "buy" the dragon in game cheaper with ebay gold then go out and spend another $70.... not like i am encouraging this. but Anet obviously is.
Recently Anet's actions has been a disaster... with good intention i had to admit. not enough info on tengu event, nothing with so ever about birthday present, CE delay, now CE owner gets to make big bucks.
what about the players who stayed up till midnight and only found out they missed the emperor cuz he was early? the people who deleted their characters a day before you implemented the bday gift to make new faction characters? the people who supported you guys and bought the game on the first day it came out?
